Judith Perez
Fine Artist / Educator

About
I am a Mexican fine artist specializing in oil painting and portraiture, with deep commitment to capturing the essence and spirit of those I paint. My work is deeply rooted in the people I love-- family, friends and those whose presence has shaped my life. Through portraiture, I aim to presence not only the likeliness but the quiet, powerful stories that live withing each person.
I earned my Bachelor of Fine Art (BFA) from the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design in 2024. I am currently continuing my education at UW-Whitewater, pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Art Education, with the goal of combining my studio practice with teaching and community engagement.
Beyond the studio I have contributed to public murals in Milwaukee, including at the Taxco Apartments and the Milwaukee Public Museum. These opportunities have only enriched my practice and belief in art's power to inspire, connect and educate.
Philosophy
"I believe in creating artistic opportunities for young artists, providing them with the encouragement and tools they need to explore their creativity. I want to teach because I am passionate about sharing the knowledge and skills I have developed with those who are just beginning their journey in the world of art. My classroom will be a safe and welcoming environment where all students feel empowered to express themselves freely and authentically, without fear of judgment.
In my personal artistic practice, I strive to share the love I have for my subjects through portraiture, capturing the individuality and spirit of those I paint. I see art as both a personal and communal experience, and I am committed to fostering a space where students can discover their own artistic voices while learning to appreciate the diverse perspectives of others.
It is crucial for art educators to actively create opportunities for their students not only within the classroom but also within the community. By using education as a tool to help young minds grow and succeed — rather than just a class where students make fun projects — we can establish a meaningful and impactful art program. Connecting education to the public, especially for younger students, provides those with a genuine passion for art the chance to grow as artists earlier in their educational journeys, opening doors to experiences that can profoundly shape their creative paths."
